Aguilera: 'Burlesque is empowering'

Christina Aguilera has said that she finds burlesque "empowering" for women.

The 29-year-old popstar, who plays a small-town girl seeking fame in forthcoming film Burlesque, revealed that she has been a long-time fan of the dance form.

"I have a collection of burlesque books at home that I've had for years," she said. "I've always been intrigued and fascinated with the topic, the beauty, and the art of it. I think it's a really empowering thing for women."

Discussing her relationship with co-star Cher, Aguilera added: "She gave me so much advice, both personally and professionally. She didn't even have to open her mouth.

"She is just such an incredible presence and person. Been there and done everything before any of us came along. I admire and respect that truly."

Burlesque opens in the US on November 24 and December 17 in the UK.
