Downey Jr confirmed for 'Sherlock Holmes'

Robert Downey Jr. has been cast as Sherlock Holmes in Guy Ritchie's new film based on the Baker Street detective, reports Variety.

The Iron Man star, who began circling the project last month, has agreed to star in the Warner Bros film, which will begin shooting in October.

Disney confirms 'The Matadors' comedy

Disney has confirmed the details of cheerleader comedy The Matadors.

The movie will be based on the all-male cheerleading squad that supports The Chicago Bulls. The squad was formed by two die-hard pro basketball fans that wanted to show their dedication to the Bulls.

It will be written by Not Another Teen Movie's Mike Bedner, while Anne Fletcher provides choreography.

Speaking about the film, Fletcher told The Hollywood Reporter: "These guys who are the ultimate fans, the biggest deed they can do is dance and cheerlead for their team.

"I wanted to do an all-out comedy, and having the dance elements, that was icing on the cake."

She added: "It's an array of guys, with all sorts of shapes and sizes. We'll be able to have fun with the casting."
Jon Favreau has signed a deal to helm Iron Man 2, according to Deadline Hollywood Daily.

The director had earlier critisied studio Marvel for setting an "unrealistic" release date for the superhero sequel. Rumours later surfaced that he would not return to direct the film.

Favreau has now reportedly agreed a contract after being offered a more lucrative deal by Marvel boss David Maisel.

Robert Downey Jr. will also return for Iron Man 2, which is scheduled for an April 2010 release.
