'Lars' director to helm 'Fright Night'?

Director Craig Gillespie is reportedly in talks to direct a remake of 1980s horror-comedy Fright Night.

DreamWorks is currently in negotiations with the Lars and the Real Girl helmer to shepherd the update into production, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Gillespie has also directed episodes of the Showtime drama United States of Tara, produced by DreamWorks's Steven Spielberg.

The original Fright Night was released in US theatres in 1985. The film centred on a teenage boy who discovers that his neighbour is a vampire.

'Avatar' star Lang confirms 'Conan' role

Avatar's Stephen Lang has confirmed reports that he will play the lead villain in the upcoming Conan movie.

Speaking to MTV, the 57-year-old said that he has accepted the role of warlord Khalar Singh.

"I have no idea how I'm going to do it," Lang stated.

He added: "I'm going to get back on a Mongolian pony and ride like the wind. I'm going to flash my scimitar. I'm going to cut the nuts off Conan and his father."

The film, directed by Marcus Nispel, stars Jason Momoa in the lead role and is based on Robert E. Howard's original Conan novels.

'Sherlock Holmes 2' to film this year?

Jude Law has reportedly said that a sequel to Sherlock Holmes could start production later this year.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Law revealed that he would most likely reprise the role of Dr Watson in a follow-up to the 2009 hit film staring Robert Downey Jr.

"I don't know for sure, but I think we are probably doing another one. I think it's sometime this year," the 37-year-old told Cinemablend.

Last year before the film's release, Law said that he hoped Sherlock Holmes, directed by Guy Ritchie, would be successful enough to launch a franchise.

'Stargate' DVD movies "still on hold"

Brad Wright has confirmed that the latest Stargate DVDs are "still on hold".

Speaking exclusively to DS, the Stargate producer said that the delay on the Atlantis DVD offering and the third SG-1 movie is due to the current DVD market.

"They're still on hold right now. The market for DVD is terrible, quite frankly," he said. "We have scripts - we have a desire to make these movies - but naturally, MGM is not going to proceed with them unless they can be successful."

Discussing the possibility of the original Stargate series carrying on, Wright added that the reasons for them being axed "weren't creative" ones.

"The reasons that they didn't carry on weren't creative - of course they could have carried on. There were stories to tell - they weren't tired shows. We had seasons planned, but this is a business and people have to recognise that."

Michael Jackson film to be shown in China

The Michael Jackson concert film This Is it is to be screened in China.

The movie, which is comprised of rehearsal footage from the late King of Pop's scheduled comeback tour, was included as one of the country's last remaining 20 foreign film import entries allotted yearly, The AP reports.

The film was cleared for the October 28 global release date by the Chinese censor board earlier this month. However, Li Chow, the general manager for Sony Pictures Releasing International, has revealed that the scale of This Is It's release is dependent upon how many prints can be issued for the 4,100 theatres in the region before the premiere.

He said: "We'll do as many prints as possible. It depends on the labs."

Sony Music recently announced that a new Jackson single 'This Is It' will be made available on October 12, while a two-disc compilation album of the same name will be released on October 26.

Royal Family 'request Brüno screening'

The Royal Family have reportedly asked for a private screening of Brüno at their Balmoral residence.

Universal studios, which produced Sacha Baron Cohen's latest movie, was sent an official email from Buckingham Palace requesting a copy of the film, reports The Sun.

A Universal source said: "We often get emails from important people requesting prints for private screenings.

"But when we realised it was for the Royals there were a few chuckles. It isn't for the faint-hearted."

Brüno features Sacha Baron Cohen’s gay Austrian fashionista trying to seduce a US congressman and a graphic sex scene involving the title character and his pygmy lover.

The insider added: "The humour is right up William and Harry’s street - but Prince Philip would probably have a heart attack."

It is not known which members of the Royal Family will be present at Balmoral for the film screening, although the Queen and Prince Phillip are thought to be the next scheduled guests.

Washington returns to 'Unstoppable'

Denzel Washington has reached a deal with 20th Century Fox to star in drama Unstoppable.

The actor pulled out of the project earlier this month, reportedly because he refused to lower his $20 million pay to help reduce the movie's budget.

According to Variety, the Oscar winner took a new script with him while promoting The Taking Of Pelham 1 2 3 in Europe and has reached a compromise with Fox.

Washington will reteam with Man On Fire director Tony Scott on the film.

Mark Bomback's Unstoppable script centres on an engineer who teams up with a young conductor (Chris Pine) to stop a runaway train filled with deadly chemicals.
